During the civil war, the Model 1861 single-shot muzzle-loading rifle was in common use by both the Union and Confederate armies. Commonly called The Springfield, this rifle is replicated in the clip. The Springfield fired the 58 caliber Minie’ Ball, which is replicated on the finial end of the pen.

The most widely used revolver in the civil war was the 1860 Colt Army revolver. This revolver used a 44 caliber bullet, which is replicated in the nib.

The body of the pen is also related to the Battle of Gettysburg. The oak used for this pen is from a tree that was there for the battle – witness wood.

This finial twist pen takes Parker-style refills.
